It’s no secret…we can create positive change for Washington’s children! Applications are closed for this year's Advocacy Camp. Join the Children's Action Network to be sure you'll hear about other training opportunities!

Advocacy Camp is a three-day, highly interactive training that will equip you with the leadership skills to be an effective child advocate and local leader. To paritcipate in camp, submit an application by Monday, September 21st.

Advocacy Camp covers three major advocacy areas: Legislative Advocacy, Grassroots Advocacy, and Media Advocacy. Through interactive hands on activities and materials, participants will learn how to work with the media, work with the community and to communicate with elected officials.

Participants will also have an opportunity to network with other advocates and learn more about other advocacy efforts across the state. By the end of the training, individuals will go home with new advocacy skills, new ideas for advocacy efforts, and probably a new friend.

We want Advocacy Campers to reflect the diversity within the child advocacy community. We will be considering geographic, issue, and racial/ethnic diversity as we review applications. We also want Advocacy Campers to make a commitment to advocate for policies that benefit children, be driven to create change in their community, and a desire to sharpen or learn new advocacy skills. In order to attend Advocacy Camp, you must be a member of the Children’s Action Network. It’s free. Sign up now.

Advocacy Camp will be held October 26-28, 2009 at the energizing and refreshing Rainbow Lodge in North Bend, WA. Tuition for Advocacy Camp is $400 per person (discounted to $250 for Children's Alliance members). Scholarships are available for low-income applicants. Depending on available resources, child care and transportation assistance will be available.

Applications are being accepted through Monday, September 21, 2009.
