SUPPORT SB 5708/HB 1834 TO PROTECT WA KIDS ONLINE
In collaboration with the Washington State Attorney General, Senator Noel Frame, and Representative Lisa Callan, Children’s Alliance will reintroduce SB 5708/HB 1834 in the 2026 legislative session! Research shows that excessive engagement with addictive online platforms, like social media, can increase the risk of behavioral health issues. Yet these platforms use data tracking and intentional design principles to keep young people online for as long as possible.
Our bill will require companies that operate addictive online platforms to create a less harmful experience for kids by:
Prohibiting platforms from targeting minors with addictive feeds
Prohibiting disruptive push notifications during school and sleep hours
Ensuring users have access to settings to promote privacy and healthy relationships online content
