NANCY AMIDEI ADVOCACY CAMP 2026

Join Children’s Alliance and PEPS on Saturday, October 24th, to become a stronger advocate for children through the Nancy Amidei Advocacy Camp!

This one-day training is designed to inspire, educate, connect, and empower child advocates by sharing the knowledge and tools needed to drive policy change in Washington state.    

At Advocacy Camp, parents, caregivers, and community members will engage in interactive learning sessions to build and strengthen skills to engage in policy advocacy. Attendees will also have the opportunity to share about their family's experiences with youth behavioral health to help inform our best path forward. Whether participants are new to advocacy or have years of experience, this training will equip them with the resources, strategies, and confidence needed to create change in their communities.  

There is no cost to register or attend this training. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Spanish interpretation services are available upon request. Please note this event is designed for parents and caregivers, and child care will not be available on site. 

When: Saturday, October 24th, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  

Where: SURF Incubator Waimea Room | 999 3rd Ave Ste 700, Seattle, WA 98104 

A one-hour virtual pre-meeting is also required. This meeting will take place on Zoom the week of October 18th. 

Training topics: 

  • Youth Behavioral Health in Washington – Learn about the state of youth behavioral health in Washington, the legislative opportunities to improve outcomes for children and youth, and how parents and caregivers play a critical role in advocating for a better future.   

  • Policy Advocacy through a Racial Equity Lens – Build a foundational understanding of racial equity concepts, learn how to analyze policies through a racial equity lens, and reflect on how your values impact your advocacy journey. 

  • Washington State Government 101 – Learn how our state’s government operates, how a bill becomes law, and how to pinpoint and capitalize on key opportunities for advocacy throughout the legislative session.  

  • Develop Your Key Message – Learn how to create, adapt, and deliver persuasive and impactful messages to strengthen your advocacy.  

  • Lobbying 101 – Build your understanding of opportunities to engage in policy advocacy at the state level, including how to sign in to committee hearings, how to email and meet with your legislators, and how to testify.

Registration closes Friday, October 16. Capacity for this training is limited to 30 participants. Children’s Alliance will follow up with registrants to let them know if their spot is confirmed or if they have been added to our waiting list. 

Nancy Amidei’s Legacy

Children’s Alliance partnered with Nancy Amidei, a visionary in political activism in Washington, to develop and facilitate these trainings from 1995 to 2019. We are grateful beyond words for her incredible contributions to Advocacy Camp.
