PROTECT WA KIDS ONLINE

Washington’s kids are facing a behavioral health crisis. Here’s how HB 1834/SB 5708 could help.

Young people in our state are struggling with behavioral health challenges at unprecedented rates. Social media usage has been shown to exacerbate these challenges, in fact, for teens who use social media over three hours each day, the risk of developing symptoms of depression and anxiety doubles.

That’s why Children’s Alliance partnered with the Washington State Attorney General, Representative Lisa Callan, and Senator Noel Frame to introduce House Bill 1834/Senate Bill 5708, which will hold social media companies accountable for creating a safer online environment for kids. In this video, we'll explain why the bill is necessary and how it will work to mitigate the harms of social media for young people.
